4. Brooklyn Mike’s Subs

Brooklyn Mike’s, one of Phoenix’s most popular sandwich shops, is hard to get to for most people who live in the city because it’s all the way up on Bell Road. But for those who don’t mind the drive, it’s worth it. The sandwich shop has existed in Phoenix since 1996 and has two locations. The other is located on Cactus Road, close to Peoria Avenue.

Their sandwiches are big and very cheap, especially when you think about how good the ingredients are. If you’re in the Phoenix area and want a good sandwich, you have to try this place.

5. Zook Z Sandwiches

Zookz also has a unique look inside. There is a small but nice place to sit outside. The front door is a big pane of glass and, like the sandwiches, it’s a little bit different because it doesn’t open like a normal door. Instead, it turns on a pivot. The bread used to make Zookz sandwiches is light and thin, almost like a pastry, but not really.

I have never seen a Zookz sandwich being made, so I can only guess how they are put together. I think they use a custom Panini-style press, where one piece of bread goes on the bottom, then the ingredients, and finally, another piece of bread goes on top of the ingredients.

Your sandwich is cut in half and comes with a side salad that you can choose from. Even though I’ve tried a few Zookz sandwiches, the No. 10 is by far my favorite!

It has roasted turkey, Parmesan cheese, apples, cranberries, roasted almonds, and a sweet-hot mustard sauce. Baby kale is my favorite side salad. I also always get a botanical tea, and I think they have 5 options.

6. City Square Deli & Grill

City Square Deli & Grill is a local fast-casual sandwich restaurant in Uptown Phoenix. It uses local ingredients and has a great selection of beer, seltzers, and canned cocktails for when you don’t have to be somewhere else right away. Enjoy any of their delicious sandwiches as a salad, and add a freshly baked cookie to top off your meal.

7. WHAT-A-SUB

If you want a real Philly cheesesteak, go to this counter-style restaurant in Uptown Phoenix, where the ingredients are flown in directly from the US. There are also chicken cheesesteaks, Italian hoagies, meatball subs, and French fries on the menu.

8. Outta Bronx

Outta Bronx is very popular at The Forefathers Cheesesteaks restaurant in south Phoenix. Build-your-own cheesesteak by choosing your protein (grilled steak or chicken) and customize your sandwich by choosing your favorite cheese, veggies, and sauces for an authentic Outta Bronx, or make it authentically yours.

9. Spinato’s Pizzeria and Family Kitchen

A Spinato’s Pizzeria and Family Kitchen, or “drowned sandwich” in English, is common street food in the Phoenix state of Jalisco. At Spinato’s Pizzeria and Family Kitchen, which is north of 96 S Rockford Dr, Tempe, AZ 8528, diners can choose from a wide range of Phoenix dishes, including some of the city’s favorites.
